Case Study:
PD Ports

The Client

PD Ports is an award-winning UK ports business offering end to end supply chain solutions. With headquarters in North East England, PD Ports operates at many key UK ports and logistics centres with a growing European presence.

With principles founded in the provision of excellent service, they pride themselves in developing imaginative and practical solutions and have full access to a global infrastructure.

Across the PD Ports Group, over 1,200 people are employed in a variety of roles, using a wide range of skills.

These roles are complemented by award-winning training programmes to ensure, as a business, they strive to continually improve the skills base of the workforce, whilst seeking to attract new people.

“Our people are our business and a true reflection of our success.”

The Problem

PD ports have tended to use a variety of ways to recruit their staff in the past varying from specialist recruitment agencies to advertising themselves on various job boards and other platforms.

The Group HR Manager found her team were spending a lot time reviewing CVs and shortlisting candidates. With a large workforce to contend with they had many other tasks to deal with and found the shortlisting onerous and time consuming.

Root2 Recruit were appointed to provide recruitment services for a PA role. These types of vacancies tend to attract a high number of applications from candidates.

The Solution

Our End to End recruitment service ensures that vacancies are advertised over a wide network of job boards and we therefore, tend to receive large numbers of applications for each role. All applications come via an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and our account managers in the resourcing hub assess each candidate manually to ascertain their suitability for the role.

In total we received 342 applications for this vacancy which we shortlisted down to 19 for the client to assess. From these 19 applicants, 7 candidates were invited for an interview. A final candidate was offered the role and accepted the position. Prior to starting employment, however, the candidate decided to stay where they were. PD Ports were able to revisit their ATS to reassess all other applicants and to also take advantage of our guarantee. This enables clients to re-run their campaign free of charge if the role hasn’t been filled first time around. As a result, another suitable candidate was quickly identified and subsequently accepted the position.

Outcome

Going through high numbers of applications and organising interviews is a very time consuming task, especially, if like most, you have a very busy schedule. This was certainly the case with PD Ports, so they were delighted with the massive amount of time they saved by working with Root2 Recruit. In total their campaign received 342 applications. Everything was handled for them, including shortlisting, candidate communication and arranging interviews. This meant PD Ports only had to review the shortlisted candidates and didn’t have the headache of going through all 342! Our team did all that for them as part of our fully account managed service.

We have received excellent feedback from them and they have rated our overall service as 10 out of 10 and would recommend us to other clients.

Q: What did you like best about working with Root2?

A: The application receipting and sifting burden was taken away from us which saved a significant amount of time. Our Account Manager, Katy, was also great – on our behalf she contacted candidates, arranged interviews and made employment offers. Again, this saved PD a lot of time.
