Last month, from the 8th to 19th of July, Root2 Recruit were lucky enough to have some fantastic NCS Volunteers completely transforming our unused garden!
Previously a space overgrown with wild foliage… Here’s how they got on!
NCS is a life-changing programme open to teenagers aged between 15-17 that encourages youngsters to discover who they are, what they enjoy doing and what they can do! Most importantly, the programme emphasises the positivity of teamwork, friendship and doing your bit for your local community. NCS is a four-phase-four-week summer (or Autumn) programme specifically designed to provide you with all sorts of new experiences. Whether you’re a daredevil or creative genius, talkative or more reserved, the programme aims to show young people how much they’re actually capable of. Our NCS Volunteers were on their ‘Third Phase’ of the programme – which meant time to make their mark with some social action!
Before the NCS volunteers arrived at Root2 HQ, our courtyard area was overgrown with weeds, unusable and in desperate need of a little TLC!
After two weeks of hard-work, determination and some serious team spirit, the courtyard is now a colourful space we can’t get enough of that’s bursting with plants, flowers and vegetables – the perfect spot to have our lunch breaks! We’ve even had a some buzzy visitors show up!
A huge thank you to such an incredible group of young people who have also raised an amazing £365 for their community – what an achievement to kick-start the summer holidays!
