In honour of Lincolnshire Day, we’ve put together a list of the best things about Lincolnshire life and why we think Lincolnshire really is the best county!
What better that celebrating Lincolnshire Day! It’s a day for celebrating all the things that make Lincolnshire the county that is it!
1.THE FOOD
Celebrated for its sausages, Lincolnshire being home to the famous Lincolnshire sausages pretty much put the county on the map! If there’s one thing the people of Lincolnshire love, it’s their sausages.
Let’s not forget the Lincolnshire Poacher cheese. The Lincolnshire Poacher is a multi-award-winning, rich and smooth cheese crafted by generations of cheese makers at Ulceby Grange Farm in Alford. Using long-established methods on a farm that’s been in the family since 1917, you can’t get more traditional than that.
2. RED ARROWS
What could be more British than a Mr. Whippy in hand watching a midsummer display of the Red Arrows?
The Red Arrows are based in RAF Scampton, a Royal Air Force station found in the village of Scampton, Lincolnshire. As well as RAF Scampton, dotted across Lincolnshire you’ll find other RAF bases here, as well as rich aviation history that dates back to the two World Wars. From the Dambusters Raid to a Vulcan bomber, Lincolnshire’s aviation and wartime history is incredible. Be sure to take a trip back in time and head over to Lincolnshire’s Aviation Centre.
3. STEEP HILL
If not the greatest street in the UK, it’s certainly the steepest! Make sure if you’re heading to the city of Lincoln, you have a good pair of shoes on and brace yourself for quite the workout!
4. LINCOLNSHIRE WOLDS
The countryside stretches for miles across Lincolnshire and with quiet lanes, fresh country air and plenty of rural village pubs to pick and choose from, it’s the perfect county for getting out and about and exploring the countryside.
5. BATEMANS BREWERY
Batemans Brewery is a brewery based in Wainfleet with a history of pint-pouring dating back almost 150 years. Famous for its cask-conditioned ales, Batemans Brewery has made quite a brewing name for itself and its beers are now found throughout the UK.
6. BURTON ROAD CHIPPY
Burton Road Chippy might not be situated next to the seaside, but it really is the perfect spot to enjoy some fish and chips whilst mooching around the city of Lincoln. It’s been voted by the BBC Good Food as one of the best fish and chip shops in the UK, as well as being named the country’s Independent Fish and Chip Restaurant of the Year 2015 and a runner-up in the 2017 National Fish & Chip Awards.

7. THE BEACHES
Lincolnshire is home to plenty of spectacular sandy landscapes to explore year-round. From Skegness’ bustling seafront throughout the summer to the new-born seals at Donna Nook in the frosty winter months, Lincolnshire’s coastline is full of wonderful seaside surprises!
8. THE BRAYFORD
Whether you’re mooching along the river or looking for a place to sit back and relax, the Brayford is the perfect place for watching the world go by. The waterfront is surrounded by an eclectic mix of restaurants, pubs, bars and entertainment venues.
9. THE SIZE
Lincolnshire is massive. In fact, it’s the second biggest country in the United Kingdom, meaning there’s absolutely loads of it to explore! With market towns, city life, seaside landscapes and the rolling countryside, Lincolnshire ticks all the boxes and it’s safe to say you’ll never run out of things to do and see.
10. THE PEOPLE
Let’s be honest; what would Lincolnshire be without the locals? Collectively referred to as the “yellow bellies”, the people of Lincolnshire make the county what it is!
